Picture this: You're showing a home to clients. As you walk inside, a lightbulb flickers out in the entryway — then another in the kitchen.

From outdated hardware to inclement weather, you never know what sort of last-minute issues you’ll face. While you can't predict every problem, you can come prepared for just about anything, with a real estate emergency kit.

Here are five items you can keep in your car.

  • Basic Tools: Are you ready to unstick doors or tighten loose cabinet screws? If not, get a simple toolbox, and include a tape measure — potential buyers can rest easy knowing their furniture will be a perfect fit.

  • Cleaning Supplies: Surface cleaners and disinfectants are essential. You can also add paper towels, garbage bags and a broom or small vacuum. And don't forget to pack toilet paper just in case.

  • Safety Products: Social distancing will be part of the process for the foreseeable future. Stash up on masks, gloves, hand sanitizer and soap to keep you and your clients as safe as possible.

  • Lighting Backups: Dead, dim or flickering lightbulbs can make a property look unkempt, so keep various bulbs on hand. Flashlights come in handy in basements, attics and other dark areas. Be sure to pack an assortment of batteries, which you can also use for fire alarms, thermostats and household remotes.

  • Outdoor Equipment: Make sure you have panels, zip ties and a mallet for yard signs. You can even carry concrete stakes for hard or frozen ground. A snow shovel, umbrellas and shoe covers are also nice-to-have items.
